Dr. Alshuth 's passion for the ocean is reflected in her photos that now number over 140,000. Her photographs have been published in a variety of international and German magazines, various professional websites and her online marine science course textbooks. She continues to use her photo and video collections from land and underwater expeditions in her graduate and undergraduate course presentations and her online course development. Dr. Alshuth was awarded in 1996, 1988 and 1994 with the Microscopic Photography Award by the German Microscopic Society. In 2009 she received the first prize award for her underwater photography by KonTiki Resort, and in 2012 and 2013 two photography awards by Insel Airlines for her reef photography.
